Welcome to 5th grade music!
January Update:
This month students are working on all kinds of musical skills. They are doing musical math, playing booms, composing their own melody on booms to be performed, and participating in stations! Check out some of the photos taken of all the 5th grade fun!
December Update:
Students are learning so many new rhythms this month! While doing holiday songs, each song has focused on a particular new rhythm we are working on. In addition to singing songs, students have been playing handbells while singing holiday songs. Playing and singing can be tricky, but they seem to enjoy the challenge!
October update:
During the month of October, the 5th graders took a "musical trip" to the African country, Uganda. We took a deep look into the Uganda music and culture. Each class was put into groups to create a poster about Uganda. They wrote at least two sentences about the country and one sentence about the music of the country. Classes were able to showcase their posters while they were displayed in the hallway for the school to see.
Before Halloween, the students in 5th grade learned about the french composer Charles-Camille Saint Saens. They also listened to a popular piece of music, "Danse Macabre," written by this composer. We even learned about the french superstition that inspired the piece.
